2008 Professional Team
21/06/08
This fall a group of Canadian volunteers consisting
of three physiotherapists, a speech language
pathologist and two occupational therapy students
will be traveling to Kenya. The team will be in the
programme area to provide direct service to people in
the community however realizing that this impact only
serves those we have a limited time to see, the group
is organizing a training workshop to build the skills
of the local rehabilitation professionals that
already exist in the area.
We are hosting a 3-day workshop in Kisumu town, Kenya starting on August 13th, 2008 for the 30 rehabilitation professionals (physiotherapists and occupational therapists) that work in the province (Nyanza).
The workshop is designed to further develop the skills of the rehab professionals through continuing education in order to assist with improving the quality of life for people living with disability and HIV. The outreach on this project is enormous when you consider that these professionals are responsible for providing services to the estimated 180 000 people that are living with disabilities in the province.
